The Facebook Rumor: Will You Have to Pay A Monthly Fee?
Don’t be fooled! I am sure by now; you have heard the rumors about Facebook charging its loyal users starting this summer a monthly fee. The messages have been circulated throughout Facebook, since late December 2009 and haven’t stop sense. I have recently received my own personal invitation to take part in the revolution against Facebook from charging its users, by suggesting that I click on a specific link that will take me to a site to fill out an application that will help prevent FaceBook from moving forward with its master plan. The message informs me that Facebook will begin charging a $3.99 a month fee starting on July 9th, if 9,999,999 users didn’t speak out against Facebook and fill out the application.
But wait a minute! Did Facebook hear the upset voices of their fateful users and decide to change their strategy? Because I remember hearing that Facebook would be charging a $14.99 a month fee starting in June…wait…no, I mean, the fee was going to be at least $50.00 a month, but it would only start on July 8. I don’t know, I’m soooo confused! So which one is correct? The answer is none of them are true. These messages are completely and harmful hoaxes! PAY CLOSE ATTENTION!
Now, this is very important. DO NOT CLICK on any page or messages asking you to fill out an application or COPY and PASTE anything, because they are designed to hijack and take over your computer. For people, who have already clicked on one of these links, have spoken out that their computers were bombarded with a series of highly objectionable images. So while the user is busy playing the "kill the pop-up game," malware software, is being uploading on your computer.
Basically, the protest page was a trap for the unwary individual and has been spreading throughout FaceBook like wildfire by people sending these pages as invitations to their friend and families. So if somebody sends you the “invite”, just delete it immediately!
The truth is that Facebook is not going to start charging their users any fees today or in the near future. Sheryl Sandberg, the company’s chief operating officer, even refuted the issue during an interview in an April 2009 edition of Business week. She said, “The answer is no, we are not planning on charging a basic fee for our basic services. Once again, that question stems from people thinking we're growing so quickly, we're running out of money. We're growing really quickly, but we can finance that growth. We're not going to charge for our basic services.”
Even though it was back in 2009, the company’s decision is still the same. So everybody take a deep breathe and rejoice that your Facebook account and beloved Farmville farms are safe! So lets all go plant our crops as soon as possible!!
