Do you remember the glory days of American Idol, when you tuned on your television set to see real singers or performers, who were impressive to listen to and watch at the same time? (Please insert Taylor Hicks here) I myself, remember when it felt good to root for your favorite or underdog contestant because you believed they had the potential to be a star, not just the potential to have an overly hyped debut album, that only would guaranteed a top spot on the billboard music charts before fading away into the abyss, after the second of third week. So what's exactly wrong with the all-powerful juggernaut known as American Idol?
This is the American Idol's ninth and last season with popular love him or hate him judge Simon Cowell, who everybody knows is the real reason behind the success of the show. This season, thes like the ones before it, was supposed to highlight American's most talented young music prodigies, but sadly this season has let everyone down. The contestants have struggled, unlike past seasons, to impress their always forgiven television viewing audience this year. Although, American Idol still continues to dominate it’s time slot whenever it is on, most agree that something is missing and the success of the show for the future could be in jeopardy.
For example, last night’s “Song of Inspiration night,” which is a prelude to tonight’s most influential two-hour show of the season, Idol Gives Back, fell flat for the audience across the nation, according to the media critics. Almost every contestants, except for the two front runners- Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox, sung highly dramatized ballads that put people to sleep, rather than giving them inspiration to stick around. I know maybe its just me, but I feel, as soon as, Simon Cowell debuts his highly popular hit singing competition, The X Factor, a United Kingdom success to United Sates in the upoming 2011 season, then American Idol's future could be in serious doubts.
Considering that I am a TV junkie and used to would not miss American Idol, I haven't watched but maybe 2 or 3 episodes this year and that was in the beginning. I do think that it is in trouble. Something is not right with it. Don't know if it is the lack of talent or the judges. Love Ellen but don't like her on there. I think Paula leaving hurt it because she was like watching a train wreck. Then when Simon leaves, it is really going to be bad for the show!
